English language modules
If you want to develop your English language skills and practice in regular classes, we have a range of free modules that can help you.
This page is accurate for students on courses accredited by the University of South Wales (formerly Glamorgan). It has not yet been updated to include advice for students whose courses are accredited by the University of Wales (i.e. courses based in Newport).
Modules are available at different levels and will develop language skills necessary for both university and professional life.
Who are the modules for?
The modules are for those students who need to improve their English language skills. Your faculty will advise you of availability of these modules, which are free.
Do different levels of ability exist?
Yes, three separate levels are available to students. The lower level concentrates on grammar and vocabulary and the higher levels deal with areas such as academic writing, presentation skills, critical thinking and seminar skills.
How can I enrol?
To enrol onto an English language module, please register your interest with your main faculty during your first or second week on campus. You should also contact the Centre for International English via email on international.english@southwales.ac.uk, who will then be able to tell you how/when to register.
