Glamlife for Students

Accommodation Services

For most new students, coming to university means living away from home for the first time. Fortunately, Accommodation Services are on hand from the moment you apply – and right throughout your studies – to ensure you have the most comfortable roof possible over your head.

This page is accurate for students on courses accredited by the University of South Wales (formerly Glamorgan). It has not yet been updated to include advice for students whose courses are accredited by the University of Wales (i.e. courses based in Newport).

Glamorgan Student Charter Information on this webpage forms part of our commitment in our Student Charter

The University of South Wales’ page on accommodation is a good place to start when looking for a place to stay. There’s information about costs, options and what to bring with you, tailored to students at the various campuses.

The University of South Wales’ Accommodation Services team (contacts below) manage all University-owned student accomodation and can also help with the private sector i.e. property not owned by the university, but rather private landlords.

Accomodation Services together with Resident Tutors run the Student Halls information channel which focusses on University owned student halls but does include some information about the private sector

We also have lot more impartial advice and support for students who live in private sector accommodation off-campus, this includes:

  • impartial advice on housing matters
  • information on private accommodation that is registered with the University
  • information on housing standards and how they are applied in the local area
  • help and advice on finding the right place to live
  • problems with landlords
  • dealing with disrepair
  • Tenancy Deposit Protection Scheme.

For information on private accommodation that is registered with the University and which complies with the local authorities’ public health and protection regulations visit Glamorgan Studentpad. You can create your own personal list of preferred properties, look on the message board for flatmates or place your own notice.

A Cardiff Living Brochure and Glamorgan Living Brochure are available to download from the Cardiff DIGs website and are also a useful source of information.

Information for international students can be found on the International section of the main University website.

What are these?

We've added a list of popular social bookmarking on our pages - it is not a complete list, but the same selection of sites that the BBC have identified as being useful to a UK audience.
